Beginning on September 4th, Westchester Buddhist Center will continue its series of evenings focused on the path of meditation and insight. Each of our sessions will begin with 45 minutes of meditation, and include a walking meditation, followed by a dharma talk and discussion.
All of these offerings are open to everyone, both new and seasoned meditators, whether Buddhist or not. You can drop-in to check us out at any time. Audio recordings of all sessions are made available through the WBC website.
9/4 Introduction to Meditation: We begin each semester by offering our signature Learn to Meditate program consisting of a detailed, guided meditation instruction along with group sitting and walking mediation practice. This is an excellent introduction to the practice of mindfulness-awareness meditation, as transmitted to us by our teacher Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
9/11 – 25: The Direct Path of Buddhadharma: On September 11 we will begin a three-week review of our exploration of the foundational path as presented in the first volume of The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, called The Path of Individual Liberation, led by Derek Kolleeny.
10/2, 10/30, 12/4: Open House Dharma Gatherings: Every four weeks Senior Teacher Jane Kolleeny will present a talk on topics about the Buddhist path of meditation and study. These are excellent opportunities for those new to meditation and Buddhism to check us out. Bring your friends and family!
10/9 Discovering the Heart of Wakefulness: On October 9 we will begin exploring the second volume The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma, called "The Bodhisattva Path of Wisdom and Compassion” led by Derek Kolleeny and Warner Dick. This exploration will focus on the Bodhisattva Path of Mahayana Buddhism. Topics include the cultivation of awakened heart, the bodhisattva vow, emptiness and compassion, bodhisattva activity and the paramitas—as always, with an emphasis on joining study with practice.
The Profound Treasury of the Ocean of Dharma is a three-volume compilation of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche's teachings given over the course of thirteen years of annual Seminary programs for advanced students. This profound and vast treasury of teachings, carefully compiled and edited, has now been made available for a broader audience in these volumes. It is a precious opportunity to study them with senior students of Trungpa Rinpoche.
